'Arcade' -
12-10-2009, 12:12 PM
How would you like to see an Arcade system installed here? There would be a big catalog of flash games available for you to play. I have the system installed at another board and could easily migrate the games etc (though the files are large so maybe I should wait until I get back home..university might get mad with that large of data transfer!)

Hell yes, an arcade would be great.
I know there are a few faults with the aracde where you can edit your score to be 99999999999 or whatever, but i am sure nobody will do that here.

An arcade might take people away from the forum. I dont see the point in putting an arcade in a forum. But, it you could somehow away TT$ to the scores, it would work.
And arcade would be nice, but IMO, it might take people away from the forum.

I support your idea Andrew.
I think an Arcade would be a great way to entertain ourselves while there is no one on the forum except us (sometimes happens when you´re in different timezones) and i´ve had a lot of fun playing Arcades in previous sites. This could be a good opportunity, hehe. You do what you´ve gotta do, i´m sure your choice will remain the best anyways.

I don't think it would take them away, if anything it would entice them to visit the forum. The chatbox was different since it was another way of 'communication' which the forum already enables-- which is why I think the chatbox takes away from the forum. In my experience the arcade provides a nice 'addictive' concept.
The arcade would also allow us to have 'arcade tournaments'.

Absolutely. An arcade would be a nice feature to add to the forums.

I do like the idea, and it might boost the forums activity and such, but, It may also lower it, with people only coming for the arcade and forgetting about their posting. I don't know if this would be a good idea unless TT$ were given to new highscores?

Lukas,
I don't really understand your argument. You say it would take away from posting, yet it would be okay if TT$ were given for high scores. I don't see how that contributes to fixing the taking away from posting. Can you clarify? It is my belief that GIVING TT$ for the arcade would lead to the reduction of forum messaging and posting.

In my experience with forums, the addition of an arcade is always a plus. I don't think more people will register simply because there's arcade but it may keep some around longer. As far as rewarding people for high scores, I don't think that would be a good idea. The arcade should just serve as a means of friendly competition within a community.

What about constituting a page where like... so at the top of the forums there is that bar that has account, market, faq, on and on - it would be called the Games Room. When you click the Games Room think (it would be a drop down menu if you click the arrow and if you click the full word it would go to the like homepage, basically a link to everything regarding it is on that page). When you click the drop down menu it would be "Arcade" and "Highscores". The highscores page is what it sounds like, but it would be all spiffed up so people would actually like to be on it.
Sorry if all that came out in a jumble. I was short on time.

It's okay! Sounds like a decent idea. I want to eliminate the dropdowns as much as I can from the navigation panel though. By default the high scores are posted at the top of the arcade page. I haven't really tested with it so not sure how easy it would be to move it but I will look at it (when I install the arcade/if)
Also, I am probably going to take down 'Quick Links' and add a button called 'Census' which goes to Memberlist?

I'd love that. You should do it now, nobody really uses the 'Quick Links' button.

I agree, it takes up space. Keep things simplistic- simplicity is the key. I'll do it today probably.. after I stop procrastinating on this paper (about GOOGLE and the GOVERNMENT) and finish it.. haha.

Sorry about that, I wrote that from my iPod touch and did not re-read it. I just realized that it makes no sense. Must be because I am tired from last night, sorry.
I meant to saw no $TT should be given out for games (arguing Joshee's point, I believe) and that it would take away from the forums activity in general, so, saying that I am not in support.

Google conforms to certain government's requests. Google refuses to state specifically which ones (we the people, have guessed rightly so it is most definitely America, Germany and Israel). A few years ago the policy and terms of conditions changed to hint this. If you need any help or have questions on the subject feel free to ask. I used to be caught in the conspiracy bullshit of Google taking over the world.

Thanks Qeltar!
My English teacher just gave us a topic to create a conspiracy theory so i'm fabricating a lot of it! Involving gmail, user search privacy, and... GOOGLE EARTH!

I would like to have a arcade installed on our virtual Town. It will be a place to have fun playing games while visiting this forum.

You may think it'd be nice, but after a week or so it will become a bit dull. It's happened to a community I was apart of that had about 200+ active members. So if you're going to add it, I just hope it doesn't cost/waste too much of your time.
